The key to achieving goals is to take easy baby steps. From eating better to saving money, here are a few ways to achieve those different goals.

Planning is the easiest part of setting goals, but when it comes down to actually achieving them, that can be problematic. However, it's all about making realistic goals that you can accomplish.

For example, instead of saying "I'll lose five pounds by the end of the month," make it simpler with, "I'll lose one pound by the end of this week." There are an array of easy goals that can be used to improve various aspects of life.

Goals for Eating Better

Whether the goal is to lose weight or to experience healthy eating, now is the perfect time to change eating habits. The best way to do this is to think about it as a new adventure. For example, if white bread and butter are on the dinner plate, it's likely that they'll be consumed. Clean the kitchen shelves of unnecessary food items and replace them with fresh fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, proteins and whole grains. If healthy items are in the home instead of sugary, fatty foods, you'll sway towards eating better.

Saving Money at Home

If a regular habit happens to be purchasing lunch everyday at work, the best way to cut down is to brown-bag the lunch. Instead of purchasing coffee or tea everyday, bring tea bags and a coffee pot from home and keep it at the office desk. And if the goal is to start saving money, try this: Get a candy dish, keep it by the front door, and drop in a dollar every morning. Whatever is saved up at the end of the month, put it in a bank account.

Getting Promoted at Work

Maybe the goal is to get a promotion in the near future. In this case, don't quickly enroll in any accounting or PowerPoint presentation class. First, ask a manager what can be done to improve the performance. After the discussion, look into pertinent community college or company-sponsored classes.

Overall, goal-setting involves overcoming small steps in order to reach accomplishments. If the goal is to try to eat better, start at home by snacking on fresh fruits or by cleaning out the kitchen. When it comes to saving money, it's about not spending outside of the home – bring lunch from home or only purchase a cup of coffee in the cafeteria. Also, don't rush into joining any continuing education class at the local college to increase changes of a promotion – again, the key is to take baby steps by finding out what aspects of life need improvement.
